A*STAR - ARTC and SIMTech
The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) is a contemporary platform built upon strong public-private partnerships of 80 members. ARTC focuses on advanced manufacturing and remanufacturing and serves to accelerate the transfer of innovation from applied research to industrial applications.
The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) develops high-value manufacturing technology and human capital to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing industry. It collaborates with various multinational and local companies in the precision engineering, medtech, aerospace, automotive, marine, oil & gas, electronics, semiconductor, logistics, and other sectors.
Our Technology Offers
Smart Waste Bin Platform – Tackling Recycle Challenges
Smart waste bin platform offers a revolutionary ad-hoc concept to provide on-demand, technology-specific waste collection system solutions to end-users. Our technology also provides backward compatibility to existing infrastructures, enabling collaboration with suppliers on existing smart bin upgrades and productization.
Our team has developed a smart bin platform with AI image recognition and complex human-behavioral algorithm, mechanical separation system to automatically identify and bin consumers’ disposed waste between recyclables and non-recyclables.
Moving forward, our team is looking to create an all-inclusive functional modular platform solution to be incorporated or retrofitted into current infrastructure to address other pain points in waste collections.
Integrated Water Recycling and Repurposing System
This technology offers a new concept to manage wastewater and mitigate secondary contamination of wastewater treatment process through a non-chemical approach, which has been developed and translated to an integrated pilot scale water line.
The current pilot line combines SIMTech’s electrochemical advance oxidation process (EAOP), and commercial nanobubble generation and ceramic membranes. This technology is suitable for removing particulate, organic and microbial pollutants in wastewaters, and enables a sustainable close-loop solution to support emerging urban manufacturing.
Moving forward, the team is looking to create a platform solution where various functional modules can be developed to be incorporated or retrofitted into current infrastructure to address emerging needs in water circularity.
The technology provider is currently seeking co-development and licensing partners to commercialize this technology.
Life Cycle Assessment & Costing (LCA-LCC) Digital Platform
The Life Cycle Assessment & Costing (LCA-LCC) Platform is a science-based, collaborative digital software platform that empowers businesses to strike a balance between economic feasibility and sustainability. Sustainability is increasingly becoming part of the business line in ensuring a business’s long-term goals and operations. Carbon footprint accounting is an important starting point for businesses to analyse their current activities and allow businesses to plan for realistic goals in carbon reduction effort. While the LCC component analyse the total cost over the whole lifespan of an asset which can be used to assess the economic feasibility of various sustainability plans.
As a unified platform for quantifying sustainability effort and reporting, it addresses the needs of various stakeholders and industry sectors (e.g. public sector agencies, high emission companies, and consulting firms). The platform facilitates the building of a localised knowledge-based Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) through a collaborative approach.
Additionally, the platform evaluates both environmental and economic impact using a unified model, to help businesses and policymakers in their decision-making processes and in achieving their sustainability goals.
