Technology Overview

The global gas detectors market is valued at US$ 2.6 Billion in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ 3.6 Billion by 2025, at a CAGR of 4.8% during the forecast period, because of increased safety awareness and requirements all over the world.

The technology offers an imaging solution for hazardous gas leak detection with only few detectors in various industries dealing with chemicals and fuels.

The technology consists of 2 types of unprecedented few-pixel IR cameras with both advanced sensing techniques and a proprietary algorithm.

  • Passive camera: imaging with external IR light sources (sun, heat sources, lamp or other artificial IR light sources etc.)
  • Passive/Active camera: In addition to passive camera, the active mode relies on active IR laser patterns.

Similar to wide-field IR cameras, our solution will monitor the site reliably; having only a few detectors will cut 80% of the cost of conventional cameras. The hybrid serial/parallel detection with proprietary algorithm enhances frame rate to achieve real time industrial standard images.

Technology Features, Specifications and Advantages

The technology provides an imaging solution without an expensive detector array. With a hybrid detection system and proprietary algorithm based on compressed sensing, we could offer gas leak detection in real time.

Our technology could be integrated into handheld devices to find the gas leak positions. They could also be integrated into CCTV system to provide fixed location security and gas leaks surveillance.

With this revolutionary gas detection technology, it could potentially replace existing solutions and introduce a new safety practice for industry.

Potential Applications

The BAST Determination Process recent studies reviewed and confirmed that the Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) technology is the most effective to detect methane gas leak detection, to enable the operator to see the vapor gas cloud in real time; main disadvantage is high cost, making it un-feasible for full implementation in site operations.

OGCI - Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, a voluntary CEO-led initiative from all the world’s leading Oil and Gas producers, taking practical actions on climate change, has prioritised reducing methane emissions to near zero. State regulators in the USA, such as Wyoming, Ohio, California, Pennsylvania and Colorado4, recommend and make use of OGI devices in Oil & Gas operations.

This technology adequately addressed the above and covers a wide range of hazardous gas leak monitoring applications such as:

  • OGI devices in Oil & Gas operations.
  • Detect methane gas leak, to enable the operator to actually see the vapor gas cloud in real time
  • Applicable Industries includes:
    • Upstream oil and gas productions such as drill wells, extraction of chemical supply
    • Midstream sector such as pipelines and tank farms
    • Downstream sector such as refining of petroleum crude oil, processing and purifying of raw natural gas.
